Cairns Childrens Court: Latest in shocking alleged teen rapist home invasion case

Three teens, two aged 15 and a 16 year old, accused of a vile home invasion and rape at knifepoint have had their matters heard in the Cairns Childrens Court.

Three teens accused of raping a woman while her husband was held at knifepoint have had their matters heard in the Cairns Childrens Court.

The three young men, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are each facing five counts of rape among other charges including depravation of liberty and break and enter charges.

In an incident that shocked the state and authorities, the boys are accused of taking and raping a woman at knifepoint while a blade was held to her husband’s throat.

The husband and wife in their 30s were asleep in their bed when they were allegedly woken by the three teenage boys around 3.30am on February 21.

As one of boys allegedly held the knife to the man, the other two took the woman to an outside area of the Manunda home where she was raped.

Defence counsel for one of the teenagers, Mark Zeller, advised the court they had received a partial brief of evidence.

Police prosecutor Mary Malloy said outstanding material included police witness statements, technical reports, and reports from medical witnesses.

The matter of the first teenager was adjourned for four weeks — until May 29 for committal mention before it will be passed through to the Queensland Childrens Court.

The other two teenagers, who are represented by different lawyers, had their matters adjourned until May 15 as their defence teams take further instructions following the disclosure of the partial brief.

All three boys are yet to enter or indicate any pleas.
