An armed man was allegedly seen threatening both businesses and pedestrians in the CBD on Wednesday morning.

Police confirmed they received numerous calls from the public reporting the man had a weapon, believed to be a knife, early morning on April 9.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said officers responded to the disturbance on Sheridan Street.

“Police were called to reports of a disturbance on Sheridan Street this morning, April 9,” she said.

“Initial information indicated at 10.10am, a man with a weapon was threatening members of the public.”

An hour later, the man was located and arrested.

“The man was taken into custody at 11.18am on Collins Avenue,” the QPS spokeswoman added.

There is no ongoing threat to the public.

This incident follows a similar event on April 4, when authorities were called to Grove and Sheridan Streets in Cairns City, where a man was seen walking with an object believed to be a knife.

When the 26-year-old Aurukun man was taken into custody, he was allegedly found carrying a pair of scissors.

Identity checks revealed the man was also wanted under an active warrant.

He has been charged with one count each of possessing a knife in public, public nuisance, and failure to appear.
