Mr Assman’s tragic death came on the day of his mother’s birthday and about a month after the funeral of his father – who died to cancer – leaving his family and the community of Gordonvale heartbroken.

“Rest in peace Benjamin Assman, miss all those fun times in class with you man, you always kept walking around with a smile and kept everyone smiling, ️rest easy brother,” Mr Assman’s friend Hayden Wallwork said in a social media tribute.

Mr Wallwork’s words were among a number of tributes shared on social media, while it is understood privately, his colleagues at the Mt Sheridan Plaza Coles have shared messages for their fallen worker, while also receiving support to deal with the sudden tragedy.

Sambo Mack said Mr Assman would never be forgotten.

“The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the memory of you shall never pass away. RIP Ben I know your dad is there with you.”

“So sad. May he rest peacefully. Condolences to his family and extended family at this sad time. He died doing what he loved,” Susan Bertuch said.

“Absolutely tragic. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten,” Michael Ryan said.

Although the exact cause of Mr Assman’s death has not been revealed, temperatures on January 7 were above average.

The hot weather peaked at 12.30pm when it was 34.7C while the apparent temperature at that time was 37.4C.

Between 12.30pm and 5.30pm, approximately when emergency services were called, the apparent temperature did not drop below 35C.
