A TRACTOR has rolled and trapped a seriously injured driver in a suburb much more frequently inhabited by mums in minivans than earthmoving machinery operators.
Paramedics and firefighters have worked to extricate the driver after being called to the crash at the top of Toogood Rd in Bayview Heights at 2.12pm.
A QAS spokeswoman said the driver was initially trapped but had since been removed and taken to Cairns Hospital with leg, pelvic and spinal injuries.
Cairns Fire Station Officer Brian Jewell said the operator had been trapped underneath the tractor when authorities arrived.
“Our job was to stabilise the vehicle to stop it slipping even further down the slope while we worked with Queensland Ambulance to prepare him for the stretcher,” he said.
“Queensland Ambulance then transported him to hospital.
“The tractor was on quite a steep slope, probably a 45-degree slope.
“We had to secure it to a tree to stop it from sliding down further.
“The conditions were not easy to work in for our footing – a very slippery slope.”
The rescue took about half an hour to get the man back on level ground.
“The owner of the vehicle is preparing to have it removed, or recovered,” Station Officer Brian Jewell said.
