A man was tasered after his alleged behaviour caused staff to lockdown a Bendigo Bank in Westcourt.

A 27-year-old White Rock man was arrested after he allegedly began challenging staff and smashing windows and furniture at the Bendigo Bank in Westcourt at around 1.50pm on Tuesday afternoon.

“He was going in and out of offices, slamming things, he picked up a couch and flipped it, picked up a chair and threw that at a glass window, and smashed the doors,” a bystander, who did not wish to be named, alleged.

The bystander also claimed other patrons quickly left the bank.

“A guy that looked like a security guard was trying to take people out one by one.”

Police confirmed they were called to the incident where a taser was deployed but stated no one was injured in the arrest.

The White Rock man was later charged with three counts of wilful damage, two counts of committing a public nuisance and one count of obstructing a police officer.

He was further charged with stealing for an unrelated matter.

The man is due to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court Wednesday November 8.
