A man has been hospitalised following a near-drowning incident in the city centre, as temperatures soared into the high 30s.

A young man has been pulled from the water after nearly drowning along the Cairns Esplanade, as temperatures soared into the high 30s.
Emergency services arrived to a private pool at a hotel along the Esplanade in Cairns City just after 7pm on Tuesday, January 15.
The initial reports made to support crews was a “near-drowning”.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesman confirmed paramedics arrived on scene and helped the patient as “required”.
“Paramedics arrived to the hotel pool, did what they needed to do before transporting the patient to Cairns Hospital,” he said.
The QAS spokesman was unable to provide further details on the man's age or his condition.
