After being closed for three years a well-known Greek restaurant in Cairns has reopened under new management and with a new-look menu.
Located on Abbott Street under the new ownership of Ewelina Plis, Mykonos will bring back the best of Greek food along with traditional Polish offerings such as pierogi (dumplings) and Polish-style chicken.
“I started working with George the old owner in January and bought the business in March,” Ms Plis said.
“In just one month, we are seeing full tables every night.”
Ms Plis, who is Polish but has lived in Greece, decided to maintain the restaurant’s original name and logo as Greek food was still the main attraction along with special Polish food, which is not offered anywhere else in Cairns.
“All the sauces, meat dishes are freshly made on site, also because we don’t have much space for storage so it is mostly all made the day of (service),” she said.
While she wouldn’t recommend a single specialty, Ms Plis said her fish and chips and moussaka were popular and the feedback had been positive.
Mykonos originally opened in 2016 under the ownership of George Karagiannis with partner Arjun Arjun becoming the face of the restaurant in 2019.
The establishment closed down in 2020 during the Covid pandemic.
