A bushfire near Alice Springs, has sparked a warning from authorities urging locals to monitor the situation.

At about 2pm on Monday, NT Fire and Rescue issued a service message confirming a bushfire had started in the vicinity of Little Sisters Camp, Ntjalka Circuit.

Authorities advised locals to monitor the situation for any changes warning that effective containment strategies were not in place for the entire perimeter.

It was also warned visibility in the area might be affected due to smoke, with road users reminded that firefighting crews might be working close to the roadside.

The situation is expected to continue until 4pm.
