Mass queues were forming at Department of Transport offices across Brisbane on Tuesday as Queenslanders receive confirmation their private data had been breached in the hacking scandal.
Many Queensland customers received an email from Optus on Monday confirming they were victims of the data breach.
“We can now confirm that your driver's licence was exposed,” the email read.
The letter encouraged customers to apply for a new driver's licence, but warned to expect delays.
“We encourage you to remain vigilant in the meantime,” it read.
Samantha Bentley was one of many Optus customers notified that her licence had been compromised.
“I received an email yesterday from Optus saying that my driver’s license has been exposed, so I came down here today to get it reissued,” she said.
Fellow customer Damian Lucas said he was concerned for his personal and banking information after receiving the email notification.
“I’m definitely worried, today information is so critical, all you really need is a person’s driver’s licence and you can access most things like Afterpay and credit cards,” he said.
“So I want to make sure I get this sorted fairly quickly.”
Hacking victim Angeline Pan said the Department of Transport should be doing more to help compromised Optus customers.
“Obviously it’s a hassle, and the waiting line is so long (at the Department of Transport office), so I wish they would streamline it a little bit, since there are so many of us here” she said.
Ms Pan said she was so worried that her banking details were compromised due to the data breach, she has felt the need to take additional steps to monitor her online transactions.
“After getting the email, I immediately checked my online banking” she said.
“I have now turned my notifications on, for my online banking so I know every transaction that’s going in and out of my account”.
