Pioneering Brisbane Lady Mayoress, Pearl Ruby Harvey, has died aged 95.

The partner of former Lord Mayor Roy Harvey, who served as an alderman for 27 years and as the mayor for three years, she was a crucial support for him at a time when alderman did not even have their own offices.

Born on August 29, 1929, she grew up in Aspley and started her working life at 16 as a stenographer before starting a job at a tannery in Kedron.

It was there she met Mr Harvey. The couple later married, in December 1949, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Ms Harvey provided the administrative support her husband needed after he was elected.

But much more than that, she went on to become an active part of the community and a de facto representative of her husband and council.

Over the years she served as president, treasurer or secretary of a long list of community groups from schools to churches and charities.

Mr Harvey passed away in 2006 but she remained active.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner paid tribute to Ms Harvey on behalf of council.

“I wish to pass on our sincere condolences to the Harvey family and all who knew Pearl,” he said.

A grandmother of eight and great grandmother of six, she is survived by brother Doug. Her other brothers Ralph and Norm pre-deceased her.

She was also mother and mother-in-law to Noel and Cathy Harvey, Janelle and Jim Ellwood, Marcia and Glen Forbes, and sister-in-law and aunt of the Jess and Young families.

Ms Harvey was “called home’’ on February 11.

A service for Ms Harvey will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, February 19, at St Marks Lutheran Church in Kawana.

* A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Ms Harvey was 104.
