The age-old frustration of finding a parked car in front of your bin on collection day, leaving it filled with rubbish until the next week, can be solved the following day by a simple, little-known hack.
Brisbane residents have aired their concerns as non residents increasingly park in front of their homes, blocking rubbish collectors from emptying their bins, leaving rotting food stagnant in the bins until the next week.
A disappointed Brisbane resident posted his predicament to a community group inquiring as to a possible solution as to what other residents do to tackle this difficult situation.
“This happens to me nearly every week, a stranger parks in front of my bin and it is left by the bin collectors as they can’t access my bin,” the man said.
“Should I leave a polite note to let the driver know or should I contact the council?”
“It’s not the end of the world but it is annoying.”
Another resident said he solves this problem by contacting Brisbane City Council via a form on their website for next day collection.
“Fill it out and they’ll come and empty it for you tomorrow, I used to live on a street where this happened every few months and it doesn’t have to be a big deal,” he said.
A Brisbane City Council spokesman said residents would need to provide details of the problem, the address of the bin as well as contact details.
“Once you have submitted these details you would receive a reference number and an approximate time frame for the specific situation to be rectified,” a council spokesman said.
The form can be filled out for issues related to non collection, damaged bins, missing or stolen bins and abandoned bins.
Other tips residents revealed included placing the bin on the end of the driveway once all occupants were home for the evening.
“This has solved the problem for us,” one resident said.
“Everyone on my street put the bins on the actual road by the gutter so cars can’t park there,” another said.
