The Palaszczuk government has revealed rendered images for the proposed Morningside station upgrade with locals invited to have their say.

The new station is part of the state government’s program to improve the accessibility of the rail network, including an overbridge with lifts to allow wheelchair access, raised platforms and vision-impaired assistance tools.

Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the program would also improve customer experiences more broadly with improved weather coverage and lighting.

“We are progressively upgrading stations across the Southeast Queensland rail network to make them accessible for all customers through our over $500 million upgrade program,” he said.

The development will be open for feedback online until March 18 as local MP Di Farmer urged residents to have their say on the project, which was designed in consultation with an accessibility focus group.

“We want to ensure everyone in the community can access Morningside station safely and without barriers, which is why this project will deliver major accessibility improvements including full-length raised platforms to improve ease of boarding, and a new overbridge with direct lift access to the platforms,” she said.

“That’s in addition to hearing augmentation loops and tactile platform surfaces for customers requiring hearing and vision assistance, upgraded CCTV and station lighting, extended platform shelters and new wayfinding, and platform signage.

“These upgrades will provide accessible options for people with a disability, parents with prams and senior citizens to access the platforms.”

Ms Farmer said the feedback will help inform the final design of the project, with Queensland Rail planning to release a tender for detailed design and construction in mid-2022.

Upgrades to the Morningside station are expected to be completed by 2024.
