South East Queensland train lines will be redrawn into a “three sector” network when Cross River Rail opens in 2025 in what has been heralded as a “big change” for commuters.
All services will run through Roma Street under the shake-up, but several lines will no longer run through Central, Fortitude Valley and Bowen Hills.

The first sector will run from Varsity Lakes and Beenleigh through to the Redcliffe Peninsula and Nambour – using the new Cross River Rail tunnels.
It will mean the existing Gold Coast, Beenleigh, Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, and Redcliffe Peninsula lines will no longer run through Central station.
They will, however, use the new Boggo Rd, Woolloongabba and Albert Street stations that have been built for Cross River Rail – and will also run through to the new Exhibition station.
Sector two will operate services from Rosewood, Ipswich, and Springfield through Central and onto Doomben, the Airport and Shorncliffe – but they will not use the new Cross River Rail stations.
And Sector three will operate from Ferny Grove and South Bank through to Cleveland, running through Central station. The services on this sector will use the new Boggo Road station.
Transport Minister Mark Bailey acknowledged there would be a “big change” for some commuters, but said it would also present “many opportunities”.
“In 2025, the first underground rail system in the state’s history will be built paving the way for faster, more frequent services,” Mr Bailey said.
