Weifeng Huang charged with murder of Jifeng Liu and her son Sam

A man has been charged with the double murder of a mother and her son in a suburban home in what police allege was a “frenzied attack”.

Evidence in the case against a man accused of murdering two people during an alleged “frenzied attack” is yet to be translated to English, a court has been told.

Weifeng Huang, 49, was charged with two counts of murder after the bodies of Jifeng “Eileen” Liu, 47, and her son Sam, 20, were found dead on the top of a staircase in a South Brisbane home in August, 2022.

Police allege the pair died in a two-storey home in Stretton and large amounts of blood were discovered on the stairwell.

Police allege Mr Huang and Ms Lui had been in a relationship and lived at the property together.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham told reporters in August that police had seized two alleged weapons – a kitchen knife and a meat cleaver.

“The scene was confronting, it has been described as a frenzied attack on the two deceased persons,” Superintendent Massingham said.

Police allege Mr Huang fled the scene in a silver SUV after the alleged murders and attempted to change his clothes before returning to the home about 30 minutes later.

When the matter was briefly mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, the court was told Mr Huang’s legal team had faced delays in translating interviews and video evidence from Cantonese to English.

Magistrate Mark Nolan said he would allow one more week to get directions before he set it down for a committal hearing.

The matter was adjourned to June 5.
