Footage has emerged of the tragic moment a one-year-old boy and his brother wandered away from their home, shortly before the toddler drowned in a nearby creek.
It is believed the boys were looking for Easter eggs about 9am on Sunday when they wandered from the front yard of their Paralowie home in Adelaide’s north.
He was soon pulled unconscious from the Little Para River, only a few hundred metres from his house.
Officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, and CPR was performed before he was “taken to hospital in a critical condition”.
SA Police confirmed to NCA NewsWire the toddler died in hospital on Monday.
Upon discovering he had wandered off, the child’s parents began a frantic search for him, according to Seven News.
During their panic the parents reportedly crashed their car into a nearby ditch.
Police will now prepare a report for the coroner.
Sunday’s drowning comes as the latest in a string of child drownings in South Australia.
A child, under the age of 10, drowned in the bathtub of a Banksia Park home in early December.
It followed the drowning death of a nine-year-old at Waikerie Swimming Centre, about 200km northeast of Adelaide, just days earlier.
