Police draw firearm following Melbourne CBD shooting

A police officer was forced to draw their firearm after a suspect vehicle drove towards them following a shooting in Melbourne’s Collins St early Sunday morning.

A police officer drew their weapon as a car drove towards officers before speeding away from the scene of a shooting in Melbourne’s Collins St.

Armed Crime Squad detectives are now investigating the incident, which left a man injured in Melbourne’s CBD early Sunday morning.

Police were patrolling Collins St when, about 6.30am, a member of the public alerted them that someone had been shot.

A dark-coloured Ford Territory then drove towards the officers, prompting one of them to draw their firearm. The vehicle then fled the scene.

Shortly after, police were approached by a 20-year-old Smythes Creek man who had sustained a gunshot wound.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

The offenders remain at large, but police believe those involved are known to each other.

Following the incident, sections of the street were cordoned off as police patrolled the area and spoke with bystanders.
