“She needs to be remembered for the beautiful little cowgirl that she is … You wouldn’t have found a more loved and cared for girl.”

“She was our world. Our 24/7 world,” Ms Shearer said.

In a GoFundMe page made by a friend, the 2yo girl was also described as a “cheeky little cowgirl who loved her pony Princess and her dogs” and “always up for adventures and was totally fearless”.

The incident occurred at about 10am on a property near the town of Nagambie in the Whroo area, 120km north of Melbourne.

Mackenzie was in a fenced-off area under her mother’s supervision before she disappeared.

Following a search by the mother, the 2yo girl was found unresponsive in a dam at a nearby property.

Ambulance Victoria were called to the incidence just after 10am and a NSW Police spokesperson confirmed her death.

“Sadly, the infant was unable to be revived and died at the scene,” the spokesperson said.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

Last year 323 people drowned in Australia, according to Royal Life Saving Australia data.

About 10 per cent of those drownings occurred in lakes and dams, and 20 per cent happened on a private property.
