A man has been hailed a hero for jumping into action and rescuing a roo from a popular beach.

A man has been hailed a hero for jumping into action and rescuing a kangaroo from rough surf at a South Australian beach.

Annette Oakes shared pictures of the “legend (who) stripped down and jumped in” on the Port Noarlunga and Seaford Community Group on Facebook.

Ms Oakes said she had witnessed a “surf rescue with a twist” sharing the actions of the man on social media.

“A frightened little roo got confused after bouncing into the construction area of the boardwalk at Port Noarlunga then decided a swim would be a good idea,” she said on social media.

“It wasn’t.

“This legend stripped down and jumped into guide the roo back to safety.

“It was getting dunked and definitely needed a hand.”

“Good bloke. Roo looks young and probably got in over his head, so to speak,” another person commented.

“There’s going to be a whole bunch of sunbathing ladies at the beach tomorrow morning,” a person said.

“Not all heroes wear capes hey - what a bloody legend he is,” another wrote.

“Im guessing all the ladies will pretend to drown and need a rescue, good on him for the rescue,” a person wrote.
