Two men have been accused of a gruesome kidnapping which left a man with a severed finger.
The alleged victims, a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were walking towards a car park at Fairfield in Sydney’s southwest on January 18 when they were allegedly grabbed by two men wearing balaclavas.
The duo were allegedly forced into a vehicle, which was last seen travelling west along The Horsley Drive.
A harrowing two days after their abduction, the pair escaped a location at Swan Bay, around 25km northeast of Raymond Terrace, at about 12.15am.
The duo were able to call a family member who in turn contacted police.
Local police took the man and woman to John Hunter Hospital for treatment where it was found the man’s finger had allegedly been “severed during the incident”.
Following an extensive investigation, police searched two homes in Smithfield and Cartwright in the early hours of April 4 where two people were arrested and taken into custody.
Both men, aged 24 and 25, were charged with two counts of taking/detaining in company with intent to ransom occasion bodily harm.
They were also charged with one count each of taking or being carried in a conveyance without the owner’s consent and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.
The 25-year-old man who was arrested has also been charged with one count of damaging property by fire in relation to a separate incident, where a Molotov cocktail was allegedly thrown at a home in Bossley Park on January 22.
Both men were refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court earlier this month where they were formally refused bail to reappear before Parramatta Local Court on May 1.
