‘Bigger the better’: outrage over Adelaide club’s racy event

An Adelaide nightclub has cancelled an event where women would get free drinks based on their bra size.

An Adelaide nightclub has pulled an event where women would get free drinks based on their bra size following online backlash.

Woolshed On Hindley, self-described as a “country themed pub by day” but “one of Adelaide’s best nightclubs after dark,” urged women to “hang your bra in the shed” in a now-deleted Instagram post.

“Hanging your bra is uncomfortable, hang it up in the shed and let loose. That means you as well boys,” the post read.

The post went on to suggest a patron could get a free drink based on their bra size: “A cup = 1 free drink,” “B cup = 2 free drinks,” with the tag line “the bigger the better.”

The post gave no detail on how a patron’s bra size was to be determined, and if the undergarment had to be removed in order to get the free drinks.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the Hindley St venue announced the promotion would not be going ahead.

“We sincerely apologise for the fact that the post made some of our patrons feel uncomfortable and body-shamed as this was never our intention,” it read.

“Based on the feedback from our community we have canceled the promotion and are workshopping ideas for different promotions that promote a fun, safe and inclusive environment for all.”

Comments on the post ranged from condemnation over the concept, while others defended the promotion and branded dissenters as being “too sensitive.”

“Was a terrible idea from the get go whoever came up with it and then allowed it to be shared should be in big trouble seriously inappropriate stuff,” says one comment.

“Do you’s even work as a team to discuss what actually looks good for your business before letting stuff like this get posted?” says another.

“I thought this was hilarious. Some people need to lighten up!” reads one of the comments in support of the cancelled event.

“Well, I thought it was absolutely hilarious, I laughed so hard!” comments another supporter.
