A Friday night out at the Tatts Hotel Toowoomba turned sour after security guards kicked out an intoxicated patron for using his phone to film his workmates dancing with girls.
Bradley Paul Parker fronted Toowoomba Magistrate Court on Monday, March 13, and pleaded guilty to one charge of wilful damage.
Police prosecutor Bettina Trenear said the incident occurred on February 3, after Parker was pulled up for recording a video and asked to leave.
Ms Trenear said Parker complied with the direction, but did so aggressively, where he punched a wall, threw his drink at a wall, and punched a neon sign near the DJ booth.
The court was told police happened to be walking past the hotel when Parker was escorted out which resulted in him being detained.
Solicitor Brad Skuse said his client became frustrated because he hadn’t done anything wrong, and felt like he was always being picked on by security guards because of his large stature.
Mr Skuse said the guards told Parker he was creepy which angered him more.
Magistrate Louise Shephard said Parker clearly acted out of character as it was the first time he had been in trouble with the law, but told him intoxication was no excuse for his behaviour.
Ms Shephard also expressed confusion as to why Parker was not allowed to film a Snapchat.
As parker had already paid an $1862 infringement notice, Magistrate Shephard ordered he pay the $1000 in compensation to Tatts Hotel and did not further punish him.
No conviction was recorded.
