Exclusive: A 14-year-old boy has told of how he was bashed and robbed by men who yelled gang name “Greater West 2770” at a Western Sydney McDonalds on Saturday night.

The attack comes after The Daily Telegraph revealed police have set up Strike Force Imbala to tackle rising tensions between gangs in Western Sydney, including Greater West.

The boy, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said he was with friends at the Quakers Hill McDonald’s when a man he didn’t know approached asking for a cigarette. The man and his friends got into their cars, and were about to leave, when he returned and confronted the boy again.

“He pushed me and I said ‘what are you doing? I’ve done nothing wrong,” the boy said.

The man tried to punch the boy before cornering him in the car park, when several other men approached and began punching him in the face.

The boy said the men — who were around 18-20 years old and of Samoan in appearance — also stole his Gucci hat and Tommy Hilfiger bum bag.

“I pushed them out the way and ran into the McDonald’s. My socks were wet and I yelled ‘help,” the boy said.

The McDonald’s staff were able to lock the boy inside and call police, but not before a man ran inside and yelled “Greater West 2770” before fleeing the scene.

The boy suffered bruising to his cheeks and bleeding from his chin as a result of the attack.

The boy’s father Phillip said the Quakers Hill McDonald’s could become dangerous after dark.

“That McDonald’s becomes the only place open where people can go; there’s no security.”

Phillip said he was concerned about the rising threat of gang violence in their community.

“It’s not a bad area but at night it becomes dangerous,” Phillip said.

Quakers Hill McDonald’s owner Leon Brown said Saturday was the first violent incident they had since he started running the store five years ago. He said they were doing everything they could to support police.

“It’s an incredibly safe restaurant and this is the first incident of its kind that I have seen,” he said.

NSW police spokeswoman confirmed they were investigating the incident. No charges have been laid.

Greater West is one of the most prolific gangs in the Quakers Hill area. It is understood members were involved in the dramatic siege at Frank Baxter Juvenile Detention Centre last week, which lasted 23 hours and included members of rival gang Inner Western Brotherhood.

Strike Force Imbala was set up three weeks ago to crackdown on violence from street-level gangs in Sydney’s west after a brawl in Parramatta CBD which led to nine men being charged, who remain before the courts.

Investigators are also looking at a brawl earlier this month at a Mount Druitt hotel where two men were stabbed and another man was hit by a car.

The strike force has called in help from elite crime squad Strike Force Raptor, which is usually focused on outlaw motorcycle gangs, with their proactive investigation.

Gang violence in Sydney’s northwest and southwest has been growing, with young members using social media to flaunt their violent behaviour, posting videos of brawls between rival gangs.

Gangs, which are emulating US rap culture, include Inner Western Brotherhood — which operates between Gladesville and Cabramatta — and OneFour which is based in Mt Druitt.
