DIY enthusiasts, schools and community groups have put their tools and imaginations to the test to take part in an annual fundraising campaign.

The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation has launched its Pop-up Pallet event which showcases a range of handcrafted pieces using recycled pallets.

The foundation’s public relations officer Emma Manteufel said this year had a range of items from coffee tables and bench seats to puppets.

“This is our fourth year of hosting the event and there are nine amazing pieces of handmade pallet furniture and artworks this year,” she said.

“Our only criteria is that 80% of the items are made from wooden pallets.”

The auction is now open for anyone hoping to make a bid.

A stall has also been set-up on level 1 of Grand Central Shopping Centre to give interested parties an opportunity to check out this year’s creations.

“All funds raised through the auction will go to the Darling Downs Health cardiology unit this year,” Ms Manteufel said.

“The proceeds will help to create a electrophysiology service which will see patients be able to receive lifesaving treatments in Toowoomba.”

Toowoomba Orthodontists partners Chris Turnock and Ashley Smith said they were proud to be the naming sponsors of this year’s event.

“We like to do whatever we can to get behind the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation – they do lots of great work for people in need,” Dr Turnock said.

“Every bid placed is money going to a great cause to help the people in the Darling Downs.”

Bidding closes July 19 and winners will be announced on Tuesday.
