An Australian Army recruit has died in an “incident” at the Kapooka training camp in the Riverina.

An Australian Army recruit has died in an “incident” at the Kapooka training camp in the Riverina.

Liam Wolf was training on Good Friday when he was rushed to hospital and died there earlier today, Department of Defence has confirmed in a statement.

“Recruit Liam Wolf was completing basic training at the Army Recruit Training Centre in Kapooka, NSW, when he was involved in an incident,” a department statement said.

“He was transported to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, before being flown to Sydney for specialist treatment. Despite the best efforts of emergency services and hospital health care providers, Liam was pronounced dead on 23 April 2019.”

Mr Wolf’s army colleagues tried to save his life.

“Defence notes the commendable actions of those Army members and health staff involved in providing immediate first aid,” the statement said.

Defence announced Mr Wolf’s death with “deep regret”, adding it was co-operating with a NSW Police investigation.

“The Australian Defence Force continues to work with the NSW Police and ComCare to investigate the incident and therefore Defence will not make further comment on the details of the incident at this time,” the statement said.
