Gold Coast police provide an update on double murder cold case

A manhunt is underway after a group of armed offenders attempted to break into a bottle shop at a popular Southport pub carrying a gun this afternoon.

Police are investigating after an unknown number of people attempted to break into the Dan Murphy’s bottle shop at the Anglers Arms Hotel on Queen Street at around 1pm Tuesday.

A Queensland Police Services (QPS) spokesman said one of the people was allegedly seen carrying a knife and a gun.

“A group of people were seen in the car park of a store in a stolen white SUV, one was reported to be allegedly carrying a knife and a gun,” the spokesman said.

“None of the offenders entered the premise and they left in another silver vehicle of which the details are unknown.”

Gold Coast Council division six candidate Samantha Delmege was at the scene when the incident was unfolding.

She said the alleged stolen car was a Porsche.

“It was driven to the Anglers Arms pub and then the guy got out on foot and ran up Lenneberg Street .”

“When I was walking down there they haven't found the person yet,” Ms Delmege said. “There was overhead choppers, undercover police and everything.”

“It was full on, they towed away that car from the carpark.”
