In a seesawing men’s Cup final against Veivaniua Brothers on Saturday afternoon, Nationwide Nadi found themselves trailing with a minute to play before a blistering and heroic run up the field from one their players proved the match-winner – a final conversion icing the thrilling 19-14 win to take out the Far North’s richest sevens carnival.

Both sides brought it in the short-and-sharp final, going try for try with a series of dazzling plays.
Earlier in the day, Nationwide Nadi similarly won their semi with some late magic, scoring the final try of the game in a close 12-7 win over TRA Global Fijians, while Veivaniua Brothers held firm in the final five minutes for a 14-7 win over Work Ready Mountain Goats.
Meanwhile, a second half onslaught in the women’s Cup final saw Lilian Amazons walk away this year’s winners.
Trailing Lubly Aunties by a try at half time, Lilian Amazons piled on four of their own across the final seven minutes to take out a comprehensive 26-5 victory, 26-5.
Both sides easily brushed aside their rivals in the semis, having broken open the game in the second half.
Lilian Amazons, up 7-5 early against Natz Ratz, went on to score a 31-10 win and entry into the final, while Lubly Aunties were level at half time with Barron Bullettes before running away with the 24-12 win.

PREVIEW
Bragging rights and a $40,000 prize pool will be up for grabs when the Cairns 7s Rugby Tournament kicks off for two action-packed days from Friday.
Teams are set to take over the Far North Queensland city for the popular event – now in its fifth year – on November 7 and 8.
And KommunityTV will bring you the Field 1 action live and exclusive from Stan Williams Park.
Sides from right across Australia, along with representation from Papua New Guinea and Fiji, will compete across both senior male and female divisions and Cairns 7s Marketing Manager AJ Tofilau expected fierce competition.
“I think everyone is really excited about what’s to come this year,” Tofilau said.
“We started as just a local competition so to now have national and international teams competing is something we believe has really lifted the standard of competition over the journey.
“There are national representatives in some of the squads so clearly there’s that level of professionalism that comes with that but to also be competing for a share of the $40,000 prize pool is obviously that extra incentive.”
A variant of rugby in which teams are made up of seven players playing shortened games, instead of the usual 15 players playing 40-minute halves, Tofilau was proud to give aspiring athletes the chance to help continue to grow the game.
“Rugby union is such a great sport but up here in Queensland rugby league is king,” he said.
“So it’s good to be able to create that platform to help facilitate some of the best young talents and give them that opportunity to compete against the best of the best.”
While the Cairns 7s tournament has already experienced year-on-year growth since its 2021 inception, the competition could be set for further expansion in 2026.
And with KommunityTV set to stream all the action live and exclusive for the first time, Tofilau believed it would give the event greater exposure than ever before – including to potentially interested teams from right across the globe.
“We’ve had inquires for 2026 from teams coming from Canada, the United States, Singapore, Samoa, Tonga and New Zealand so having KommunityTV on board to showcase what our event has to offer is really crucial for them to get an expectation of what to expect from the Cairns 7s.
“To also be able to accommodate our competing teams in 2025 and showcase their skills to a larger audience is something we are incredibly excited about.”
KommunityTV’s exclusive live stream coverage will begin from 3pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday.
