10 best places for fish and chips in Toowoomba

HERE are the top 10 places to get fish and chips in Toowoomba.

WE MIGHT be nowhere near a beach but Toowoomba residents love their fish and chips.

While Ben Genrich said the best fish was to catch it and cook it yourself and Jeremay Jay said it was wherever you meet your mate after they've been deep sea fishing, Toowoomba has plenty of places if you don't quite feel like doing yourself.

The Chronicle asked its online reader where the best place was to get fish and chips and the results are in.

Here are the top ten places to get fish and chips.

1. Toowoomba Fish Depot

THE most popular place to buy fish and chips in Toowoomba is Toowoomba Fish Depot at Red Edge Shopping Centre on James St.

The depot is owned by Nirlep "Nelly" Bhatt and Atul Sakhiya.

Reader Kristie Worthy goes out of her way to visit the James St depot.

Leisa Davies Red said they cook the best grilled fish in town.

2. Seafood on Mary

SEAFOOD on Mary and The Sea Lorry are locally-owned Toowoomba businesses providing fresh seafood.

The shop is not only loved by locals but those passing through; it was voted an overall "excellent" on Trip Advisor.

Steve C from Ubud, Indonesia said the prawns immediately caught his eye.

"Recommended highly by friends, we visited Seafood on Mary to source fresh seafood for a special dinner with family," he said.

"Super fresh and huge king prawns were well priced and the service was fast and friendly."

3. Metro Seafood

READER Kelly Fiedler said Metro Seafood had hands down the best fish and chips in town.

With fish, wedges and chips, meals for one, seafood baskets, burgers and family meal packs, check them out at 20/300 West St.

4. Chipper Fish

LOCATED at the Tower Shopping Centre on Drayton Rd, Chipper Fish has been locally owned and operated since 2011.

Its goal is to provide customers with quality food at an affordable price.

Breaking away from the stereotypes of fish and ship shops, Chipper Fish sell salads  and even have low gluten options.

5. Wyalla Fish Bar

WYALLA Fish Bar is a takeaway seafood shop offering a range of hot food, sandwiches and more.

Claire Gaydon loves their mackerel.

Find them at Wyalla Plaza in Newtown.

6. Fish Depot Rangeville

GLENN Courtney recommends the Fish Depot at Rangeville.

From the ocean to your plate, the depot has gourmet basket dinners, fresh seafood, value platters, chips and burgers.

Find them on the corner of High and Meibusch Sts.

They are open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am-8pm.

7. Berny's Fish Bar

BERNY'S Fish Bar dishes up quality fish and chips with great family and dinner packs available, as well as a large range of hot foods like hearty burgers.

Find them on the corner of Campbell and West Sts.

8. Stoney The Fishmonger

STONEY the Fishmonger has worked extremely hard to provide quality cooked and fresh seafood to Toowoomba.

Between their supplier relationships and weekly trips to the Brisbane fish markets, they receive fresh products more than five times per week.

Fish, crustaceans and oysters are all processed on site to provide customers with a seafood experience that is normally only available on the coast.

Their takeaway cooked seafood is prepared in the way they would want to eat it themselves.

Hit them up at the corner of Hume and Herries Sts.

9. Lazy fisherman

AT THE Lazy Fisherman they love fresh, hot, succulent fish and chunky hand-cut potato chips and we love our burgers to be huge.

Their burgers are stuffed full with fresh crisp lettuce, beetroot, ripe tomatoes, caramelised onions and thick, juicy beef patties.

The Lazy Fisherman is at 323 Ruthven St.

10. Fresh Katch

For a fresh "katch" visit 407 Bridge St in Wilsonton.
