A woman has died in a horror hit-and-run incident in Melbourne after allegedly being dragged for a short distance before hitting a parked car.

A woman has been arrested over a fatal hit and run in Melbourne, where another woman was allegedly dragged along the road before hitting a parked car.

A Victoria Police spokesman said the woman was getting out of a car in Sunshine when the driver, 22, took off on High St about 3.10pm on Monday.

The woman was allegedly dragged for a short distance before she struck a parked car.

She was taken to hospital with serious injuries but later died.

The 22-year-old female driver, from Brookfield, did not stop at the scene, police said.

The spokesman confirmed she had been arrested and was now assisting police with their inquiries.

Detectives from Victoria’s major collision investigation unit are establishing the circumstances around the fatality and are calling for anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dashcam footage, to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
