‘The most’: Musk teases huge Aussie reveal

Elon Musk is known for his bold promises but the tech billionaire says this hugely anticipated reveal could be his most ‘unforgettable’ yet.

Eight years ago, Elon Musk revealed one of Tesla’s anticipated vehicles that was capable of extreme performance.

And yet the Tesla Roadster still hasn’t hit the production line. But that could change very soon.

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, the billionaire CEO teased that the long-delayed next-generation Tesla Roadster might finally make its debut, and it could come with some truly out-of-this-world capabilities.

While in a discussion about the long-delayed Tesla Roadster, Elon said the company was “getting very close to demonstrating the prototype”.

And there is a very good chance the car could make its way to Australia, with Roadster being promoted on Tesla’s Australian website.

Tesla first unveiled the Roadster way back in 2017, promising deliveries by 2020. But like many of Musk’s ambitious projects, the timeline has drifted.

Now the Tesla CEO has hinted that this new next-generation Tesla Roadster could feature flying capabilities.

“One thing I can guarantee is that this product demo will be unforgettable,” Musk said.

“I can’t do the unveil before the unveil, but it has the shot of being the most memorable product unveil ever.”

However, he refused to respond to Rogan when asked whether it had “retractable wings” or whether it would be a Vertical Take-off and Landing vehicle.

Musk has been floating the idea of a flying Tesla since 2014, though so far the only Tesla to “fly” is the one he launched into orbit back in 2018.

Elon Musk has built an infamous reputation for making outlandish or exaggerated claims, but he hopes to reveal this Tesla “by the end of the year.”

This so far lines up with Musk’s claim back in October 2024 that the Roadster would begin production in 2025 after the company had to push back production several times since its original unveill in 2017.

The timing of Musk’s latest tease comes as Tesla shareholders will vote on a massive pay package that could see Musk pocket nearly $1 trillion in Tesla stock, potentially boosting his stake in the company to around 25 per cent — if specific performance targets are met.

The Roadster is promised to be a luxury, low-volume model aimed at competing with the likes of BYD’s YangWang U9 hypercar, which recently earned the title of the world’s fastest production car.

That car reached 496.22km/h in its “Extreme” version, eclipsing the 490.484km/h record set by Bugatti’s Chiron in 2019.

According to Tesla’s website, the Roadster can hit the 0-100km/h sprint in 1.9 seconds and exceed 400 km/h, which would make it a competing contender for one of the quickest production cars in the world.
