‘I have more rights than you!’: Cyclist rages and calls police on young driver

A millionaire cyclist who raged against a young driver and called the police has been hit with a dose of instant karma.

Raging bicyclist screams at driver that he has ‘more rights’

A furious cyclist who yelled at a young driver and called police ended up copping a fine himself.

Lycra-clad 73-year-old biker Gary Peacock was caught on video exploding at Pierce Kempton, 22, after an incident on the road in Utah, late last month.

Peacock, who lives in a $US3.5 million Park City home, yanked open Kempton’s Subaru car door and accused him of driving too close as he declared “You’re not going anywhere.”

The young driver replied that he wanted to “go skate”.

“You’re not leaving!” Peacock yelled, the New York Post reports.

The younger man turned the camera on himself to show how Peacock had his “hands on” him, as the video appeared to show he was being held by the shoulder.

Kempton remained calm during the 6-minute clip and asked Peacock: “What are you doing? Why are you so cranky?”

“I’m riding a bike, I have more rights than you!” Peacock yelled at one point in the video.

Peacock called police and characterised Kempton as a “very dangerous teenager who almost hit me in a car” and called the 22-year-old a “jerk”, a “liar” and an “a***hole”.

“I want you to come and give this guy a ticket,” he said, lecturing the dispatcher on Utah laws.

“Send a policeman for this guy right now,” he said, bizarrely accusing the calm-sounding driver of still “being aggressive”.

Peacock’s wish came true, with police arriving — and the older man cockily predicting that the still-calm-sounding driver was “going to jail”.

Instead, the cyclist was issued a $237 ($US160) ticket for disorderly conduct for his unhinged display.

Kempton was initially cited for passing the cyclist too closely and handed a $192 ($US130) fine, KPCW reported. But the fine was ultimately dismissed, according to an email the videographer posted on TikTok.

Meanwhile, Peacock has expressed his regret over the incident.

“I lost my temper,” the cyclist told KCPW.

“I didn’t go there with the intention of hitting them or doing anything but just telling him, ‘Hey, you came way too close to me. And I’m upset about it. I’m angry about it.’ And then his reaction just set me off.”

He admitted he snapped, blaming it on a number of close calls he’s had with other drivers.

“This guy, unfortunately, was the subject of my wrath, because of all these other incidents,” he said.

Kempton, meanwhile, said the cyclist “could have settled that just by telling me with his words”.

“I don’t think he needed to be aggressive, and I don’t think he needed to get the law involved,” he told the outlet.

Under Utah law, drivers are prohibited from endangering “vulnerable” road users, which includes both cyclists and skateboarders.

Vehicles are required to give those users a 3-foot berth when passing.

Kempton’s mother Patricia Kempton praised her son's response.

“Horrific interaction between a cyclist and my son in Park City, Utah! Thank goodness my son was smart enough to record it. I am proud of how he handled himself,” she wrote.
