Hundreds of Ford cars recalled over potentially deadly steering issue

Hundreds of cars have been recalled by one of the nation’s biggest car manufacturers over a deadly defect.

Hundreds of Ford utility vehicles have been recalled over concerns about the vehicles steering control.

Owners of Ford’s F-150 pick-up have been urged to check if their vehicle is caught up in the recall, and to stop driving the vehicles immediately if they are.

“Due to a remanufacturing process issue, the steering intermediate shaft may separate from the steering rack resulting in a loss of steering control,” the company said in its recall notice.

“A loss of steering control could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

A total of 443 vehicles are impacted by the recall, with models produced between 2022 and 2023 affected.

Owners of affected vehicles should contact Ford to organise a free inspection and repair.

They will also be contacted in writing by the car manufacturers but can contact any Ford Dealer or the company’s customer relationship centre on 13 3673.
