Early morning commuter chaos as trucks collide on busy Sydney road

Motorists are being urged to steer clear of the area, with the truck crash closing the major road for hours.

Motorists are being warned of traffic chaos after two trucks collided on a major Sydney road.

Emergency services rushed to Richmond Road at Berkshire Park in the city’s northwest about 5.30am Tuesday after the trucks crashed.

Richmond Road was closed in both directions as a major operation by Fire and Rescue NSW and the State Emergency Services worked to free the drivers of each vehicle.

A large truck and smaller truck collided.

There were also two rescue helicopters at the scene to provide assistance.

Images of the scene show carnage, with pumpkins strewn across the road and the trucks blocking multiple lanes.

The driver of the large truck was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition, while the driver of the smaller truck was taken to the same hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been established, with the area being investigated by the Crash Investigation Unit.

Richmond Road, one of the busiest in the area, will remain closed for some time and is set to cause chaos for morning commuters.

Drivers in the area are being urged to exercise caution and use alternative roads as the area is being cleared by heavy vehicle tow trucks.

Locals are being urged to use St Marys Road, while northbound traffic is being moved to Garfield West Road.
