Denza B5 and B8 pricing revealed

This increasingly dominant Chinese car giant is making a big promise to Aussie motorists that is set to transform roads across the country.

Why new Chinese car brands are taking over Aussie roads

BYD’s new Denza brand has rocked Australia’s luxury large-SUV market after unveiling aggressive pricing for its two incoming models.

Unveiled this week, the luxury brand announced pricing for its two new plug-in hybrid SUV models, the B5 and B8, at its new flagship store in Sydney’s Rushcutters Bay.

The B5, a direct rival to heavy hitters like the Toyota LandCruiser Prado and GWM Tank 500, will kick off at around $81,000 drive-away, with the more premium B5 Leopard coming in at about $86,200 drive-away.

The larger B8 is priced at roughly $98,400 drive-away for the seven-seat version, while the plusher six-seat variant will set buyers back around $108,000 drive-away.

Both SUVs sit on BYD’s next-generation DM-O super-hybrid platform, which prioritises EV driving and seamlessly switches between electric and hybrid power to deliver almost 1000km of range.

According to Denza’s COO, Mark Harland, the brand wants to redefine what luxury means in the large SUV segment here in Australia.

“We want to have these price points that make the vehicles more attainable,” Mr Harland said.

“If I look at where the volume of the market is for these large SUVs, I’d say we’re perfectly positioned with both volume players as well as luxury.”

Ahead of the cars’ arrival in Australia, the brand has seen immense interest from potential buyers, with around 5,000 customers expressing interest in either of the large SUV models.

“There is now a real new energy choice for those who wish to combine adventure with sustainability and sophistication.”

“So we’re very happy to have almost 5,000 expressions of interest.”

“We expect each location to be filled with Denza customers eager to get behind the wheel of their own B5 or B8.”

Tugging, rage and creep modes coming to Aussie cars

Despite the early momentum, Denza acknowledges the challenge of winning over Australian buyers.

“These two cars make up the majority of our volume next year; at the end of the day, it’s about building a brand. We’re not going to be number one next year, but I think we’ll get noticed by people.”

For 2026, the brand wants to establish itself, build volume, and lock in strong customer support.

Along with that, Denza also plans to introduce two or three new models next year to broaden its customer offerings beyond large SUVs.

While final decisions on which specific models will make it here haven’t been made, the company is looking at a sedan and other non-SUV models to avoid crowding the B5 and B8.

“We’ll probably bring in another two or maybe three vehicles in 2026 that address different needs, different customers, and different segments,” Mr Harland said.

“I haven’t locked those in yet.”

“We have a range of different vehicles that we’re looking at, so the D9 obviously has the VTA. The reason we did that is that it’s a car that is offered in other parts of Asia as a right-hand drive.”

The D9 is an electric people mover that was recently approved for sale in Australia, according to leaked documents.

If Denza decides to bring the D9 to Australia, it will be available in two variants: a single-motor FWD and a dual-motor AWD.

The single-motor variant delivers 230kW, while the AWD version bumps that to 275kW.

Orders for both the B5 and B8 are now open, and Denza is promising its first 2,000 B5 customers a free premium paint upgrade and interior trim enhancement that is valued at approximately $1,818.
