Honda’s new model revolution is almost complete.

The Japanese brand has revealed the new CR-V mid-size SUV, which is due to arrive later this year.

Honda has refreshed its entire range in the past few years and the updated CR-V will join the new ZR-V, HR-V, Civic and Accord in its local line-up.

The new model comes with a big price rise, though.

Prices start at $44,500 drive-away, a jump of $5600 compared to the previous mode, and rise to $59,900.

The new CR-V will be available in a number of variants including five- and seven-seaters, front- or all-wheel drive and petrol or hybrid power.

It’ll be available in four grades with hybrid power reserved for the top-tier RS variant.

The CR-V uses the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and dual electric motor set-up as the new Civic small car and ZR-V compact SUV.

It’ll have hybrid power for the first time.

Honda hasn’t revealed power or fuel use figures for the CR-V but in the smaller vehicles the turbo makes 131kW/240Nm while the hybrid has 135kW/315Nm. Fuel use is rated at 7.2L/100km for the turbo petrol and 5.0L/100km for the hybrid in the ZR-V SUV.

Honda Australia boss, Carolyn McMahon, says hybrid power has becoming increasingly popular across its range and the addition of the CR-V hybrid will strengthen its line-up.

“Honda Australia is extremely excited to be launching the all-new CR-V to the Australian market, as this nameplate has been a consumer favourite since its introduction to the Australian Market 26 years ago” says Ms McMahon.

Buyers can choose between five or seven seat layouts.

“This next generation CR-V has evolved with family needs and offers everything our customers love about the outgoing model and more, including increased cabin space, 5 and 7 seating options, 2WD and AWD drive systems and appealing driveability across the range”.

Honda will reveal prices and full local specification closer to the car’s launch date on September 1.
