Peugeot’s new 408 four-door coupe is set to arrive in Australia next year, bringing tech once restricted to elite military units.
The French machine has a clever night vision system that uses thermal imaging technology to scan the road ahead for potential hazards such as animals and pedestrians.
The system then highlights potential threats to road safety on a digital dashboard in front of the driver.
A radar-based automatic braking system can then apply the brakes to prevent the car from colliding with people or animals.
Similar tech has been available on top-end luxury cars for years, but Peugeot could be to be the first to offer it on a sub-$100,000 car when the sedan arrives next year.
The new 408 is an eye-catching machine with a coupe-like silhouette. Feline-inspired design touches include its claw-like headlights, taillights, and purposeful stance.
Interior elements include a 10-speaker Focal stereo, premium materials and a compact steering wheel that has become a modern Peugeot hallmark.
Full tech specs for the local machine have not been locked in, but you can expect the car to combine four-cylinder turbo petrol motor with hybrid technology and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
