Lamborghini Aventador Ultimae revealed

This feature has been at the heart of some of the best Italian supercars known to man, but that is all about to come to an end.

It’s the end of an era for this vaunted Italian supercar maker.

Lamborghini has revealed the last edition of its fire-breathing Aventador, dubbed the Ultimae.

The Aventador Ultimae is a huge turning point for the legendary maker as it signals the end of its violent non-turbo V12 engine known for its high-revving nature and screaming exhaust note. As the last of its breed, the car is likely to have huge potential as a collector’s item.

The Ultimae will be the last Aventador.

Its demise has been caused by tougher emissions regulations in Europe, which have forced Lamborghini to choose hybrid power for its next generation of supercars, before going fully electric in the future.

This means the line of its hero cars, such as the Countach and Diablo, powered purely by a naturally-aspirated V12 engine is likely coming to an end.

It also signals the end of the V12 naturally-aspirated engine before hybrid power is added.

Ferrari, too, is under pressure to cut its big non-turbo V12 engines from its hero cars.

The massive V12 engine in the Ultimae produces a whopping 574kW and 720Nm, which is equal to about five Toyota Corollas combined.

It can sprint from 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds on the way to a top speed of 355km/h.

The Italian maker has used carbon fibre extensively throughout the Ultimae’s structure to make it more rigid and lighter than the Aventador S.

It is likely to cost more than $1m in Australia.

Aggressive, edgy styling and a low, wide body give the Aventador extreme road presence and wild aerodynamic elements add to the head turning looks. Scissor doors add even more wow factor to the Aventador.

Huge 21-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres for maximum grip and performance and big silver brake calipers add immense stopping power.

Only 600 examples of the Ultimae will be built, 350 coupes and 250 convertibles.

The Aventador Ultimae is available in 18 different standard colours, but owners have up to 300 to choose from through Lamborghini’s custom department.

Prices have yet to be announced but expect the Ultimae to be more than $1m in Australia.
