A Tesla Model 3 catches wild police chase in Sydney

The electric car’s onboard cameras have captured the moment two vehicle lead police on a wild chase in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

A Tesla Model 3 has captured footage of a wild police chase through Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The footage was captured on the inbuilt cameras of the car as it was being road tested by specialist electric car site EV Central just before midnight on Thursday.

The high-speed chase occurred on Warringah Road and involved what appeared to be two cars fleeing from multiple police vehicles, including a Chrysler 300 SRT Highway Patrol vehicle.

A white Mercedes-Benz ML SUV and a grey Volkswagen Golf hatchback were shown trying to escape the police in the video and were seen driving dangerously, crossing the median strip into the path of oncoming traffic.

A Chrysler 300 SRT Highway Patrol vehicle was in pursuit of the two vehicles.

Police vehicles were seen blocking two out of three lanes, but the Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen slipped through.

The cars were estimated to be travelling up to 100km/h, well above the posted speed limit. At this point it appears the Highway Patrol vehicles in pursuit called off the chase, most likely to avoid putting the public in danger.

The police continued to follow at a safe speed and distance. They were joined soon after by a Police helicopter.

A Tesla Model 3 is fitted with eight cameras as part of its driver aid safety tech and self driving features.

Four of the cameras combine to provide a 360-degree view around the car and the

footage can be downloaded to a USB.

Some Teslas feature a sentry mode, which can activate cameras when they detect someone trying to break in or damage a vehicle – helping to deter thieves and catch small car parking bingles.

One camera caught a woman keying a car in the carpark of Westfield Penrith in western Sydney.
