2026 Nissan Navara revealed

Unlike any that has come before it this new Aussie ute, specifically tuned for conditions Down Under is making some big promises it plans to keep.

Nissan's new Navara unveiled

The all-new Nissan Navara is a crucial addition for the struggling Japanese brand – but it’s unlike any Navara that has come before it.

That’s because the new Navara is actually a Mitsubishi Triton. In large part, anyway.

Previously the Nissan ute was the base that was built upon by other badge-engineering efforts, like the Renault Alaskan (which never launched here) and the Mercedes-Benz X-Class (which was a spectacular flop, axed just a few years after launch).

But this new-gen D24 Navara model is a restyled and reworked version of the Mitsubishi Triton – a bi-product of the alliance between those two makers that goes back almost a decade.

The new Navara range will go on sale in the first quarter of 2026, and the Japanese brand claims it will be the most Australian ute the brand has offered over almost 40 years on sale here.

Andrew Humberstone, managing director of Nissan Oceania, called out the work done by the brand’s local collaborators, Premcar – the business that hones the Warrior special models sold here, and will do so to another top-spec Navara Pro-4X Warrior in this generation – as previewed by a hardcore concept at the global unveiling.

“The new Navara represents what Australian drivers need from their pick-up truck in this region,” Mr Humberstone said.

“This isn’t just evolution – it’s built on four decades of Nissan experience, with deep Australian insights and a unique suspension calibration, tuned by Premcar specifically for our arduous conditions.”

The new Navara line-up is going to be a lot simpler than before. Previously Nissan had single-cab, extra-cab and cab-chassis work-focused models on offer … but that won’t be the case this time.

Nissan Australia says that nine out of 10 buyers chose a dual-cab pick-up with an automatic gearbox last time around, so that’s all it’ll sell with the new one from launch.

It features Australia tuned and tested suspension, with Premcar taking the lead on differentiating the Navara from its rivals. Gone is the coil-spring rear suspension, too, with the brand opting for leaf springs on all models.

And if you’re wondering about powertrains? You bet it’s going to be a familiar one from the Triton. That means a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine with 150kW and 470Nm, with a standard-fit six-speed auto on offer.

All models will be four-wheel drive, but there are differences between the base set up and the higher grades. Towing capacity will be the benchmark level – 750kg unbraked, and 3500kg braked.

Certain grades will get an ‘Easy 4WD’ system that can switch between rear or four-wheel drive on sealed surfaces. There’s an electronic rear diff lock standard, too, while the ST-X and Pro-4X models have ‘Super 4WD’ with full-time high-range and a limited-slip diff. Of course there’s an array of driving modes, too.

Fuel use? The claim is 7.7 litres per 100km, and it’s expected to have a 75-litre diesel tank, and a 17-litre AdBlue tank.

The new Navara sees a comprehensive interior upgrade compared to its predecessor, and in the launch-leading Pro-4X model, it has lairy Lava Red accents and contrast stitching, as well as leather-accented trim.

All models score a 9.0-inch touchscreen media system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and digital radio, while ST-X and Pro-4X models gain wireless phone charging. There’s also a 7.0-inch driver info screen.

Nissan is also offering a connected services program with app-based controls for air-con, stolen vehicle tracking, and even locking/unlocking the car.

The brand is expected to follow the tracks of the Triton in terms of safety, too, with a range of advanced tech offered, such as auto-emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert, auto high-beam lights, traffic sign recognition, and a driver monitoring camera.

The brand will also give buyers the chance to get up to 10 years/300,000km of new car warranty if they service with Nissan’s dealer network – otherwise it’s a five-year, unlimited-kilometre plan. There’s five years of ‘Flat Price’ servicing, and up to 10 years/300,000km of roadside assist if you maintain your ute in-house.
