You won’t believe Margot Robbie’s next project: 'I should probably disappear for a while'

We've gotta say, we did not have this on our 2024 bingo card!

We have some pretty surprising news if you’ve been wondering what’s next for Margot Robbie after her worldwide success with Barbie last year.

The celebrated actress and producer is set to embark on another surprising cinematic journey with her production prowess now set to adapt one of the most beloved video game franchises, ‘The Sims’.

A cultural phenomenon

Since its inception in 2000, ‘The Sims’ has captivated hearts (and many hours) worldwide.

It has evolved into one of the highest-grossing video game franchises, boasting a staggering 200 million copies sold.

In this life simulation game, players take on the roles of avatars, navigating through various life scenarios, from mundane daily tasks to fulfilling personal aspirations.

But if you’re anything like me, you spent more time creating your dream house using the “motherlode” cheat than actually playing the game.

A familiar name wears the director’s hat

Renowned director Kate Herron, known for her work on the inaugural season of Marvel’s Loki series, is set to helm ‘The Sims’ movie adaptation.

Teaming up with screenwriter Briony Redman, Herron will bring a unique perspective to translating the ‘The Sims’ computer game into a feature film.

Reactions from fans

The movie’s announcement has stirred a mix of anticipation and scepticism among fans.

“OMG this better be true, I can’t wait!” tweeted one.

With another adding, “It’s gonna be as big as Barbie”.

However, not everyone shared the same enthusiasm, “How is this even going to work lol.”

Previous attempts to bring the movie to theatres faced obstacles, and it was shelved in 2019 after years of development limbo.

However, with Robbie as a driving force and the creative talents of Herron and Redman, the project promises to take the game to Hollywood.

A surprising announcement

Robbie recently surprised fans by announcing her intentions to “disappear” from the screen for a while.

“Everyone’s like, ‘Are you having a break?’ And I’m like, ‘You do know I’m a producer, right? We don’t get a break,’” she told Deadline.

“I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while.”

“Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.”
