"When on earth did Easter buns go up to $18.99 for a six-pack?"

The Aussie took to a local Facebook group to share their disbelief.

“I rarely enter into any major grocery stores these days and prices have exploded in the last couple of years but when on earth did Easter buns go up to $18.99 for a six-pack?” they wrote.

Pictured are the Traditional Hot Cross Buns from Infinity Bakery, a Sydney bakery with various outposts across the city, who also sell their gourmet baked goods in select Harris Farms.

For comparison, traditional hot cross buns from Coles and Woolworths are both priced at $4 for a pack of six.

"Crazy prices"

The post left other consumers fuming, with many accusing yet another supermarket of price gouging.

“That's so overpriced, there are cheaper ones out there!” said one.

“I think Infinity Bakery bake it in-store to try to justify this silly price. Just ridiculous,” another theorised.

Then a third added: “Crazy prices.”

Meanwhile, this person quipped: “For that price, I’d be looking for gold flakes inside,” while someone else joked: “Is actual Jesus in there?”

But no, the ingredient list is pretty standard - flour, sugar, yeast, water, starter, butter, currants, sultanas, orange peel, mixed spice, salt, improver and olive oil.

But it doesn't stop there

It comes after Sydneysiders were left stunned after spotting even more expensive hot cross buns for sale in a cafe in the city’s east.

The Bake Bar cafe in Randwick is slinging their gluten-free hot cross buns for $5.50 a pop, or $30 for the standard six.

“Our delicious gluten-free hot cross buns are made from our special mix of tapioca, sorghum and besan,” the cafe wrote on a sign.

“Filled with juicy currants, sultanas and raisins.”

Even the gluten-free packs at the major supermarkets aren’t this expensive, with a pack of four going for $5.20 at Woolies, while a three-pack from Coles is $4.
