Woman shares photos of ‘scary’ find in Melbourne garage

A Melbourne woman shared photos after discovering someone had been living in her garage – and how she’d gone unnoticed for months.

'Freaked out'- Woman's terrifying find in garage

A Melbourne woman has shared photos from the moment she discovered a stranger was living in her house and she had “no idea”.

Kate revealed she and her former roommate had been living in a property with a separate garage – and had presumed the miscellaneous items inside had belonged to one another.

But when Kate was moving out, her flatmate asked her to grab the belongings in the garage, leading to the chilling discovery.

In a series of TikTok videos shared on her business account, The Loved Up Co, Kate shared photos from the “scary” scene.

“That’s me in the background, looking around the garage, let me give you a tour,” she states.

She begins by pointing to a long brown lounge chair which she said was already there – but pointed to a black sleeping bag she said didn’t belong to her or her roommate.

“Under the chair there’s a bucket and some towels which is obviously I assume how this person was washing themselves,” she continued.

“Really close in the back there’s her shoes, they’re black on the side.

“Over here on the top [shelf] we’ve got Aeroguard, Listerine, toothbrush, hairbrush.

“I’ve no idea where these chairs came from. But the bag hanging [on the wall] is where she was keeping her rubbish.”

Kate went on to explain that outside of the door to the garage was a towel, leading them to believe that is where the stranger was “showering”.

The video quickly captured huge attention, with many calling on Kate to explain how she didn’t realise someone was living in her garage.

“The only reason we found out was because I was moving out, and my housemate asked me to grab all of my crap from the garage,” she stated in a second video which contained another photo of the scene.

“I said there wasn’t any because I’m scared of spiders, which is definitely a legit reason to not put anything in there.

“Anyway, we went down there together to have a look to see what was going on, and low and behold someone was living in there.

“We never saw the person in there at this time, but you can see their slippers under this couch, their sleeping bag, a bucket and as shared in the previous video lots of other bits and bobs that point to someone being there.”

In the comments, Kate elaborated further, explaining: “The garage wasn’t attached to the house, it was down a side road. so unless you parked or went there everyday you wouldn’t know.”

After initially thinking she was being “pranked” by her housemate, and vice versa, the pair called the police, determining the unknown woman had been “living there for months”.

“The police ended up locking the garage up and placing a sign on the front that basically said she could come and grab her stuff but she had to call,” she went on.

“Of course, that person was never going to call. But the next day we saw her pull the sign off the garage door and storm away.”

Kate finished by saying the woman was “incredibly dressed” and “savvy” – even commending her for finding a place that “wasn’t being used”.

Many commenters agreed, stating in the current rental crisis, it was “sad” people had to find unused garages to keep a roof over their head.

“That’s so sad. It was probably due the rental crisis in Australia right now. Hopefully she found shelter,” one wrote.

“I hope she found another safe place to sleep at night,” someone else agreed.

As another remarked: “I mean.... you can’t hate her for combating the rental crisis.”

Kate replied in the comments, noting the scenario – which some viewers labelled “scary” and “terrifying” – happened 7 years ago, but stated: “She was clearly onto something.”
