Whether you’re planning a trip or a family outing, catching up with friends or in need of groceries, check out our comprehensive list of trading hours for major shopping centres, department stores, bottle shops, government services and public transport.

SUPERMARKETS

Customers are advised to complete their Easter grocery shopping by Thursday, since on Good Friday, all Coles, Woolworths and Aldi outlets are expected to be closed.

On Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, stores are expected to re-open to shoppers, but reduced trading hours apply to most locations which vary across stores. We suggest checking your local store’s opening hours before heading out.

Most IGA stores across Queensland will remain trading on Good Friday, with more to reopen on Holy Saturday, and some of them will trade as the usual hours, while some will be closed or have reduced hours, so we encourage you to check with your local store.

BOTTLE SHOPS

Bottle shops will be closed on Good Friday, and takeaway alcohol cannot be bought from any venue. If you’re planning to head to your local pub, however, you can still buy alcohol when you order a meal.

Liquorland, BWS and Dan Murphy’s will reopen on Holy Saturday, with special trading hours that vary across stores, while some selected BWS stores will close again on Easter Sunday. The liquor chains should operate on Easter Monday, and we recommend checking your local store for the exact hours.

SERVICES AUSTRALIA

Services Australia’s Offices and call centres will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday, which means their customers’ reporting and payment date will change and occur earlier than expected.

The Centrelink online account will show the new reporting date for the period. We advise you to check its website for more information.

DEPARTMENT STORES

Discounted retail chains Big W, Target and Kmart will be closed on Good Friday, but they should all reopen on Holy Saturday. Some of them might close on Easter Sunday depending on the location, so we suggest checking you to check before heading for a shop.

While Myer and David Jones will be closed on Good Friday but will reopen on Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, but special trading hours may impose depending on the location.

SHOPPING CENTRES

Westfield Chermside, North Lakes, Carindale and Mt Gravatt will all be closed on Good Friday but will all reopen on Holy Saturday.

Brisbane CBD’s Uptown, Queens Plaza and Macarthur Central will also be closed on Good Friday but will all reopen on Holy Saturday at reduced trading hours.

Most regional malls such as DFO, Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, Sunnybank Plaza will close on Good Friday and operate at special hours throughout the weekend.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Over the Easter long weekend, TransLink buses and trains will run on weekend or public holiday timetable with a few routes as an exception, while no late night train services available. Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines will also be affected by track closures with railbuses replacing trains.

CityCat, Cross River Ferries and Southern Moreton Bay Island Ferries will be on weekend or public holiday, and tram will run as usual. Travellers are encouraged to plan accordingly.

POST OFFICES

Post Offices are generally closed on public holidays, but some outlets in larger shopping centres and important metropolitan areas may be open depending on local arrangements. Make sure to double check your local branch before heading out.

As it is usual for state, regional and local public holidays, no local mail or parcel deliveries will take place on Good Friday or Easter Monday, including express post.

BANKS

Banks will typically close throughout the Easter Weekend from Good Friday to Easter Monday including Commonwealth Bank, Teachers Mutual Bank, NAB, Westpac and ANZ.

WHAT’S ON

Caboolture Easter Carnival

Kids and adults can enjoy rides, skirmish, face painting and a petting zoo at Caboolture Showgrounds on Friday. There will also be a visit from Easter bunny and fireworks display. Of course food and drinks will be offered together with market stalls and live entertainment.

Queensland Easter Fair

A ferris wheel, dodgems and more children rides will come to Waller Park in Browns Plains during the free Easter fair from Good Friday to Easter Monday. There will also be duck races, circus shows, live entertainment and most importantly massive egg hunt.

Redcliffe Market

Redcliffe Market will run on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, offering handcrafted goods from local designers, sizzling street food and live music. There will also be a meet and greet with Easter bunny and a scavenger hunt.

Easter Show Brisbane

Easter Show Brisbane will be held at Rocks Riverside Park in Seventeen Mile Rocks on Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, with more than 10 activities from egg hunt, animal feeding, reptile farm, face painting, pony rides, amusement rides to jumping castles. There will be magic shows, merchandise stalls and food vendors, and also superheroes available for photos.

Victoria Park

There will be free activities at the Victoria Park throughout the weekend from an active outdoor trail adventure, craft activities to special prizes. Easter bunny will also visit on Easter Sunday as a special guest together with fluffy baby lambs and chicks for warm cuddles. Food trucks and live music will also be there for the holiday vibe.

Newmarket Village

Freya, the Chocolate Rabbit Girl from Sylvanian Families, will meet her fans in Newmarket Village from Holy Saturday to Easter Monday. There will also be bunnies for patting and face painting sessions.
