Walking tour of the Brisbane CBD’s tiny hole-in-the-wall cafes

They are in many ways a community all to their own, made up of dedicated customers and spirited baristas who all share a common passion – coffee.

The tiny hole-in-the-wall cafes that are nestled in the walls of towering office buildings and meandering laneways are in many ways the beating heart of the Brisbane CBD.

These grab-and-go style cafes have surged in recent years, designed to meet the unique needs of time-pressed city workers who still demand a quality brew for their morning pick-me-up.

Today, come with us as we take you on a walking tour with us of some of the CBD’s most quaint and quirky hole-in-the-wall cafes.

It might just be the pick me up you need.

Near Creek St on Queen St sits the Death Star Canteen, a loosely Star Wars themed coffee shop with “the best bacon and egg burger in town”, according to regular customer Jimmy Leech.

Owner Dane Pallier-Kizana said the idea came from an Eddie Izzard routine from the early 2000s.

“But we’re basically just delivering very quick, very fast, city service – it’s all about getting it out and getting it done right,” Mr Pallier-Kizana said.

“We try really, really hard on customer service, to the point where I’d say we know 80 per cent of our clientele by name and order.

“He’s a good bloke and it’s great service.”.

Death Star Canteen is open 6am-2.30pm, Monday to Friday.
