It’s been a huge year on the social scene for Queensland with the state hosting some of the best star-studded parties and events in the country. U on Sunday socials editor and Channel 7 presenter Damien Anthony Rossi lists his favourite moments of 2019.
HOW CHANNEL 7 PRESENTER PULLED OFF EPIC PROPOSAL
1. 61st TV Week Logies (June 30)
In its second year at new home, The Star Gold Coast, the Logies shone brighter than ever with many of the stars indulging in a long weekend on the beautiful Goldy. Let’s keep them in Queensland!
2. Magic Millions Carnival (Jan 6-12)
With the recent addition of a Polo Day to kick off one of the state’s most glamorous and social weeks along with lovely UK royal Zara Phillips annual attendance, this racing carnival just keeps getting better.
3. Daydream Island Launch Party (June 15)
It doesn’t get much better than guests being flown in for a star-studded reopening launch party on one of the Reef’s most beautiful islands and dancing to Ricki-Lee with fireworks overhead.
4. The Bolshoi Ballet opening night (June 27)
QPAC’s International Series is an annual highlight on Brissy’s arts calendar and 2019 saw Moscow’s legendary ballet company return to town and feted with a glittering opening night party.
5. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane (Aug 25-29)
Queensland’s most stylish week of the year celebrating local and Oz fashion excelled in its fab new location, Howard Smith Wharves, a massive hit with fashionistas.
6. The Fantauzzo opening (May 2)
Named after one of Oz’s most exciting artists, Vincent Fantauzzo, the dazzling launch party for this Art Series Hotel saw a host of the country’s A-list stars fly in, including the artist’s wife actor Asher Keddie.
7. Gambaro Moet & Chandon Ball (May 24)
This has become the ball to beat but with free-flowing Moet, aerialists, Brazilian dancers, the party-loving cast of Melbourne and Sydney’s Real Housewives and raising funds for The Courier-Mail Children’s Fund, good luck trying.
8. Emporium Hotel’s Riverfire Party (Sept 28)
With arguably the best vantage point to take in Brisbane Festival’s Riverfire fireworks spectacular, hot spot Emporium Hotel hosted a dazzling evening at their rooftop venue, The Terrace, complete with mind-blowing fire performers.
9. Land Rover Polo in the City (Nov 23)
This posh polo day at Brisbane’s Dorrington Park and June’s Polo by the Sea event at the Goldy have taken off over the last few years giving fashionable punters a relaxed option to enjoy a premium day of ponies and socialising.
10. Asia Pacific Screen Awards (Nov 21)
Dubbed the “Oscars of the Asia Pacific”, this sparkling annual Brisbane awards ceremony recognises the best in cinema from 70 countries in the region and celebrates the diverse stories being told. The red carpet arrivals are a visual feast.
