Sonia Kruger wrote a letter to her mother Margaret Kruger, 76, for Mother’s Day today.
Dear Mum,
If recent events have taught me anything it’s to get ahead of the curve and you’ll never believe it but for once I’ve actually sent your gift ahead of Mother’s Day!
Of course I’d rather see you IRL (in real life) and go somewhere special for a lovely meal but thanks to COVID-19 that won’t be happening this year. I could try and storm the Queensland border but I won’t do that for a couple of reasons.
1. I’m glad these measures have been put in place to keep you safe from the virus and;
2. From a publicity perspective it’s probably a career limiting move.
That’s not to say I’d love to see you for a good old chinwag though. If I’m honest, that’s what I miss the most. We just don’t get the opportunity to hang out together since I moved to Sydney a lifetime ago.
Once, that was all we did… we hung out together after school when you took me to dance classes. We hung out after dance class as we watched television and sequined costumes together ‘til the early hours. We spent all of our time hanging out together and life was simple and perfect. For me anyway. I now know you were busy making sacrifices and scraping money together to pay for my dance obsession and that it wasn’t easy for you. You went without a lot so you could give me everything I needed… and you knew I needed to move to Sydney to further my career.
I’ve had some incredible opportunities come my way and for that I’m forever grateful, primarily to you mum because you were the one who taught me about persistence and patience, and helped me to be resilient when things didn’t go my way. Anything good that’s come to me is because you walked with me along the path and held my hand when I wobbled.
So thank you mum. Thank you for all of your sparkly, glittery, sequined love.
Thank you for always holding my hand and as soon as restrictions are lifted I’m coming to see you so I can hold yours.
