Dreaming of a win has become reality for Brisbane singer-songwriter Clea, who won QMAS Song of the Year.

CLEA snares QMAS song of year

Congratulations to Brisbane singer-songwriter Clea, who won the coveted Song of the Year category at this year’s Queensland Music Awards on Tuesday for her ethereal pop number Dreaming. Clea’s plaque will now join the likes of Jeremy Nealeand Violent Soho in the Brunswick Street Mall, Fortitude Valley. Tia Gostelow won Album of the Year for Thick Skin. Other big winners included Amy Shark, who won three awards, the Singer-Songwriter Award for I Said Hi, and the highest-selling album and single for Love Monster and I Said Hi, respectively, and Emily Wurramara, who won two awards. Jaimee Fryer, of Brisbane shoegaze act Pool Shop, won this year’s Billy Thorpe Scholarship and will receive $10,000 towards her next recording, as well as career planning advice from Chugg Entertainment.

A MANY SPLENDOURED THING

It has been nine years in the making, but last week Splendour in the Grass’s parent company, Secret Sounds, announced it had been granted a permanent licence to operate the festival at North Byron Parklands. This year’s event will be held from July 19-21, with the line-up expected to be announced in coming weeks.

HOTA STOMPS FEET TO NEW BEAT

The Gold Coast’s Home of the Arts (HOTA) has announced Graham Ashton ’s Footstomp Music has joined the venue as its contemporary live music booker. Ashton has 25 years’ experience in the industry and has worked with the likes of Mumford & Sons, Amy Shark, Powderfinger, The Living End and Paul Kelly, as well as managing artists such as Busby Marou and Tia Gostelow.
