delicious100: Five restaurants that dropped down (or off) the list

All restaurants in the top 100 are offering delicious food, exceptional service and a highly recommended dining experience. But with competition fierce in the state’s dining industry, and plenty of new entrants, here are five restaurants that slipped down — or out of — the rankings this year.

U ON SUNDAY’S food critics have combed Queensland for the best 100 restaurants, and the results will be revealed at couriermail.com.au from 2pm on Saturday, October 12.

All restaurants in the top 100 are offering delicious food, exceptional service and a highly recommended dining experience.

But with competition fierce in the state’s dining industry, and plenty of new entrants, here are five restaurants that slipped down — or out of — the rankings this year.

Rick Shores — 2 to 28

Rick Shores in Burleigh Heads was up the top in 2018. Its incredible floor to ceiling ocean views and its casual yet sophisticated Asian-fusion food options put it at the top last year. This year the Gold Coast hotspot was named No. 28.

Urbane — 10 to 41

Urbane in Brisbane’s CBD is one of the few remaining fine dining experiences left in Queensland. It really made its mark and ranked 10th place on the list last year when it was taken over by Brisbane-bred and Michelin-trained chef Andrew Gunn. It dropped to No. 41 this year, despite standout dishes and exceptional service.

Moda — 33 to 74

Spanish eatery Moda is an authentic and delicious establishment owned by Barcelona-born Javier Codina. It ranked No. 33 on the list last year for its flavour-first approach to designing a menu — with mouth-watering morsels on offer. But Moda, labelled by our reviewers this year as ‘a beautiful and welcoming destination’, fell to 74 this year.

Spice Bar — 37 to 95

Mooloolaba’s pan Asian restaurant Spice Bar combines a stunning view away from the hustle and bustle of The Esplanade with a diverse, seafood-centric menu that makes it a Sunshine Coast favourite, and earnt it 37th place on the delicious. 100 list last year. But with so many new and innovative Asian eateries on the scene this year, Spice Bar was pushed down to No. 95 this year.

Three Blue Ducks — 88 to not on the 2019 list

This bright and airy venue in the new W Brisbane hotel came in at No. 88 last year, with Moreton Bay bugs in XO butter a must-eat dish. Unfortunately the Brisbane restaurant doesn’t reach the heights of its sister venue at the hugely popular Byron Bay spot, The Farm, and this year it dropped off the delicious. 100 list.
