It’s the same gig, different couch for surfing mates Milo Berriman and Nic Alan.
The Gold Coast friends are returning for season 14 of Gogglebox Australia this week despite moving out of their sharehouse to live with their respective partners in recent months.
“It’s been a pretty big adjustment and there’s nothing like living with your best mate, but I’m loving it,” Milo said of living with his fiance, Katiucia. “She’s much cleaner than Nic and doesn’t steal all my clothes.”
Speaking separately, Nic answered: “I still have my training wheels on when it comes to living with the gf (girlfriend); she’s got me cleaning, changing bed sheets more often and putting toilet seats down, which I’m still getting used to, but it’s been quite good actually.”
Milo popped the question to Katiucia at Belongil Beach in Byron Bay earlier this year, driving down by himself early in the morning to spell out “Casa Comigo?” in rocks on the sand – the phrase meaning “marry me” in Portuguese.
“I went back, grabbed Katiucia and brought her back to the beach,” he said. “I took her up a grassy mound in front of my rock creation and pointed it out, dropped to one knee and she said yes! It was pretty special.”
The couple hope to tie the knot by the end of the year, border closures pending.
They moved to Coolangatta while Nic found a place near their old apartment in Broadbeach with his girlfriend Courtney, a fellow teacher he met at an end of year teachers’ drinks night at a local surf club three years ago.
The two friends will film Gogglebox at Nic’s apartment alongside his new puppy, a 10-week-old cavoodle named Yoshimoto.
“Milo the noob decided to move to Coolangatta thirty minutes away so it’s definitely his job to jump in the car,” Nic said.
Milo, however, answered: “Out of the two houses his is closer to the beach, which is very very important. Plus, Nic gets a little scared of driving at night.”
Gogglebox returns this Wednesday at 7.30pm on Foxtel and Thursday at 8.30pm on Channel 10.
TO THE LETTER
Corey Parker woke up to a different type of Father’s Day gift this morning.
Inspired to take the focus off buying presents, Margaux Parker asked each of their four children to write a handwritten letter to their dad.
The Brisbane rugby league great will have brunch with the extended family before heading to Redcliffe to fulfil his NRL commentating duties for Fox League this afternoon.
“Corey is such an integral part of our family and household due to my role in breakfast radio,” Margaux said. “He makes lunches and orchestrates bed making and uniforms. He does school drop off and always makes sure they have their bags packed and ready.”
“He’s always been such a hands-on dad even from the very beginning when they were all newborns, helping with nappy changes and early morning feeds before he went off to footy training. He also made sure I had time for self care away from the babies – taking them out to the park or for walks. He cooks, cleans, does laundry as well as being a great support to the kids and me. All the while working himself.”
River, 5
“To Dad, I love you so much because you my very best friend, best big hugs. You give the jokes. You are funny. And you make me laugh.”
Memphis, 11
“Dear Dad, The thing I like about you the most is, everything! But the thing I love about you is, that you love me the most and you always make me feel happy even when I am mad at you!
I could go on, but it’s too much!! P.S. your Jokes are the best! They make me laugh every time! You are the best dad ever!”
Jagger, 7
“Dear Dad, I love you so much for all the things you do for us. You drop us to school and make our beds and have lots of fun with us. Laughing and joking. Happy father’s day.”
Wylei, 10
“Dear Dad, I hope you have the best day nearly 40! You mean so much to me you cook for me you take me to sports and we have fun together.”
DAN’S LUCKY DAY
Dan Anstey got an early father’s day celebration during the week, welcoming his second child.
Clare Anstey, a fashion stylist, gave birth to their son, August “Augie” Matthew Anstey on Tuesday at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
But the birth came with a slight moment of panic for the Gold Coast breakfast radio host.
“The name was decided ages ago, we loved the name August, so you can imagine my panic when it’s August 31 and I’m like, ‘Duff (Clare), I don’t want to put the pressure on here but we can’t have a baby called August on September 1, so can we please get this underway’,” he told his co-hosts on SeaFM 90.9’s Bianca, Dan and Ben.
“We couldn’t have a little September Anstey running around.”
August is a little brother to the couple’s daughter Halle, two.
“Halle is absolutely chuffed, we have to tell her to be gentle though as she is too excited – she has herself the best dolly ever,” Anstey said.
SPOTTED
Kayla Itsines is the latest interstate celebrity to enjoy a Queensland getaway.
With most of the country locked down, the Adelaide fitness star seems to have taken the opportunity to holiday in the Sunshine State.
She was spotted lunching at ritzy inner-Brisbane venue The Calile on Sunday with her new beau and taking a stroll along the Riverwalk at New Farm.
Itsines confirmed to Women’s Health earlier this year that she was in a new relationship, having split from Tobi Pearce, the father of her daughter Arna, a year ago.
It came as American actor and Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon was snapped in Brisbane for the first time as she films her role as Carole Baskin in NBC series Joe Exotic.
McKinnon was spotted walking in the Botanic Gardens on Wednesday morning where she posed for a selfie with a passer-by.
BUT FIRST, TOKYO
Channel 7 waited to promote Steve Titmus to the newsdesk until after the Tokyo Olympics.
The network announced this week that Titmus would co-anchor its Gold Coast news bulletin alongside Amanda Abate following the departure of veteran presenter Rod Young.
While Young read his final bulletin on July 22, news director Neil Warren said the network had to wait until after the Olympics to roll out the plan.
Titmus’ daughter Ariarne swam to glory in Tokyo as Steve watched on from Brisbane with wife Robyn and their youngest daughter Mia, 18.
“What you see is what you get with Steve. Enthusiasm, he’s driven, just like Ariarne, a terrific and very talented person,” Warren said.
Titmus, who lives in Brisbane, has been with Seven for 21 years, joining the network in the 1990s as a sports reporter in Adelaide before returning to Tasmania, where he presented for Southern Cross for 10 years.
With a lack of swimming opportunities in Tasmania, the family relocated to Queensland, where he continued to work for Seven as a reporter and fill-in anchor for almost seven years
“Since I began my career as a newspaper cadet journalist at 17 years of age in Launceston more than 30 years ago, I set a goal to be a strong newsman and one day present the nightly news,” he said.
“I have had the ambition to return to behind the desk. It’s not about being on television, I am a story teller and love the engagement with the audience. I have found this is my comfort zone.”
Of the stories he’s covered in his career, he said the murder of Hannah Clarke and her children in Brisbane in early 2020 “was particularly disturbing and it required the use of all of my years of experience”, adding “that day will stay with me forever”.
Titmus said his family were “thrilled” about his new role.
“They know how hard I have worked over the years,” he said.
“Ariarne said ‘I am so happy for you Dad, you deserve it’. They know how much it means to me to be able to have ownership of a role and engage with my community.”
He will present his first bulletin at 5.30pm on Monday.
