Queensland is set for an ‘unseasonal drenching’ this week as a high pressure system is expected to dump falls of up to 60mm over parts of the state.
Mackay and Gladstone will bear the brunt, as an upper trough coming across the state will bring thick cloud cover combining with a trough coming along the coastline.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Shane Kennedy said most coastal parts of the state would see showers or rainfall leading into the weekend, warning Queenslanders to take their umbrellas.
“That rain activity will pick up tonight and Wednesday and could continue into Thursday although there will be more of a push offshore,” he said.
“The main focus is on Gladstone and Mackay areas, they will receive the heaviest falls.
“We have issued a strong wind warning for Capricornia waters Wednesday morning.”

Other parts of the state are set to receive some winter falls, though nothing as significant as that on the central coast.
“There will be a bit of an enhancement on Wednesday around Cairns and the tropical north coast, with falls of up to 20mm,” Mr Kennedy said.
“In the southeast, there is a high chance of showers from tomorrow and conditions will remain unsettled for several days.
“However, those falls will be more modest with totals of less than 10mm. The Sunshine Coast might see more later in the week.”
Parts of the state could be in for a chilly start to the day on Wednesday, with temperatures sitting between 12 and 21 in Brisbane, 14 and 18 in Gladstone, and 13 to 19 in Mackay.
