Brazen cockatoos have run riot inside a Hamilton Island hotel room after a couple of unsuspecting tourists misjudged how naughty the birds were.
Two young women discovered their Reef View Hotel room was destroyed after leaving their balcony door open.
The cockatoos left a trail of destruction, pulling clothes from suitcases and leaving them strewn across the room, rummaging through food and defecating over benches and beds.
In a now viral video uploaded on TikTok, holiday-maker Ellie May said herself and a friend were told not to leave the balcony door open due to the wild cockatoos.
“They told us don’t leave the doors open as the birds are going to come in and sh** on everything and guess what we did, we left the f***ing doors open,” she said.
“They also thought ‘Hey, I’m going to take your bikini bottoms and beach ball.’
“Is this a joke?”
In the footage, a suitcase is shown with the contents scattered throughout the room with dark bird droppings on almost every surface.
A few hours later a second video was posted.
“We’re alive … kind of,” Ellie May said.
“We’ve only just finished our washing and now we’re hanging it out for the cockatoos to come get again.”
She revealed the cockatoos also decided to sample the mini bar, sarcastically thanking them for the extra fees that will be charged to her card.
“They have a mini bar in your room and you get charged on the card associated with it. They took the party mix, the pringles ... all that. Thank you so much cockatoos.”
Grateful for the support given from the Reef View Hotel staff, Ellie May admitted it was their fault for ignoring the daily wildlife warning email sent every day.
At the end of the video she said her missing bikini bottoms were discovered sitting on the roof of an adjacent building.
One commenter added they experienced something similar while on the island, awaking after a short nap to a cockatoo flying out the balcony door with their keys.
In a further blow, the cockatoos were heard screeching in the background, with another commenter stating the birds “show no mercy.”
Ellie May said she cleaned the majority of the room with supplies from the cleaners however she is not looking forward to the inevitable bill.
